Scott D. Walter, M.D., M.Sc., FASRS joins Retina Consultants after completing a 2-year combined fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery and Medical Retina at the Duke University Eye Center, the top-rated retina program in the U.S. He is also the only Ocular Oncology specialist in Connecticut, having completed a fellowship in Ocular Oncology in addition to his Ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Bascom Palmer has consistently been ranked the #1 Eye Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Walter earned his M.D. from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and graduated in the top 1% of his undergraduate class at Stanford University

Dr. Walter is board-certified in Ophthalmology and also serves as an examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and received more than 20 awards for his contributions to Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists, and a frequent presenter at national meetings.

Dr. Walter is the Vice Chief of the Ophthalmology Service at Hartford Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He currently serves on Executive Committees for the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians and the Rocky Hill Surgery Center.

Dr. Walter performs over 400 vitreoretinal surgeries per year (more than any other retinal surgeon in Connecticut) and is recognized by his peers as an expert consultant in ocular oncology, uveitis, inherited retinal degeneration, and other rare disease states.
